According to the European Commission's survey of European corporations*, 78% of companies claim to be aware of artificial intelligence. However, only 42% of them actually use AI-based tools. In this article we would like to help you take advantage of these tools in your business.
How does an artificial intelligence learn?
In most applications, AI tools need many examples to be trained. These 'examples' are texts, photos, audios, videos, excel tables, numerical data... In other words, any type of structured or unstructured data. This is the reason for the 'data fever' we are currently experiencing. The development of cloud computing and the internet of things has generated a large amount of information that can be stored and used to solve numerous problems such as optimizing processes or preventing risks.
Thanks to technical advances, computing capacity has increased considerably. It is now possible to analyze huge volumes of data (Facebook users upload 10 million photos per hour!). AI algorithms are able to automatically find patterns among that sheer amount of examples.
But what if you don't have much data? The latest advances in AI already make it possible to solve some tasks with little or no data. Ask a team of experts! Maybe there is already a technology that solves your problem more easily than you think.
What does it take to develop and implement an AI-based tool?
Clearly, this depends on the task at hand and whether it can be solved using AI or it is the optimal way to do so (these techniques can be your allies, but are not a silver bullet). The foundations are: access to data and a specialized technical team. Data (top quality!) is one of the fundamental pillars. Therefore, if your company is not giving importance to the data you generate, watch out! the sooner the better.
Also, a good technology partner who can give you honest advice on the solution that best suits your needs can help you carry out this exploratory analysis. It is important that your partner accompanies you in the process of integration and implementation.
Usually, there can be 2 situations:
- Common problems in your sector: you need a technology partner who develops a tool for you or who has a SaaS ready to subscribe and use. A good partner can be a startup specialized in the tech verticals of your sector such as edtech, insurtech, e-health...
- Very complex and specific problems: a high degree of specialization in areas such as mathematics or computer engineering is required. Research work is often required at the development stage. Having a highly qualified partner is crucial.
If you are unsure whether AI can help you, we recommend that you:
- When in doubt, ALWAYS take care of your data.
- Think as if the technical limits were non-existent and ask an expert team. AI-based applications can be truly impressive.
- Join AI communities and forums and learn from them. Algorithms are your allies.
- Te adelantes a la burocracia de tu empresa y seas un impulsor del cambio. Puedes apoyarte en los beneficios que la IA ha traído a otros sectores para ‘educar’ a las personas que toman decisiones en tu compañía.
- Find a technology partner who has the knowledge you need and shares your vision.
